Baltimore Insurance Law Attorneys

Lawyers for Insurance Disputes and Litigation in Baltimore, MD

Disputes related to insurance can arise in a wide variety of situations. People who are covered by insurance policies may believe that insurance claims have been unfairly denied. Insurance carriers may believe that claims are invalid or fraudulent. People may be accused of engaging in insurance fraud or filing false claims. Professionals involved in the insurance industry may be accused of taking inappropriate or illegal actions.

In all of these cases or other matters involving insurance, legal representation by a lawyer who is familiar with the insurance industry and who has experience litigating complex disputes can be essential. The attorneys at Silverman Thompson have represented clients in a wide range of cases involving insurance coverage and liability. Our attorneys have successfully represented policyholders, carriers, risk retention groups, and insurance professionals in complex federal, state, and administrative matters.

Insurance-Related Disputes

Insurance disputes may involve disagreements over coverage, payment, policy terms, or alleged misconduct. The attorneys at Silverman Thompson can help clients address issues such as:

  • Denied Insurance Claims: Disputes involving claims that were rejected despite policy language that may provide coverage.
  • Delayed Payments: Claims in which an insurer has failed to issue payments within a reasonable time.
  • Coverage Disputes: Disagreements about whether a policy applies to a loss, liability claim, professional claim, or other covered event.
  • Bad Faith Allegations: Claims involving accusations that an insurer failed to act fairly or reasonably when evaluating, negotiating, or paying a claim.
  • Life Insurance Disputes: Conflicts involving beneficiary designations, allegations of undue influence, lack of capacity, or competing claims.
  • Insurance Fraud Allegations: Matters involving policyholders, claimants, brokers, agents, producers, or other parties who have allegedly submitted false information or engaged in deceptive conduct.
  • Regulatory Investigations: Proceedings before government agencies involving licensing, compliance, or administrative enforcement actions.

Our lawyers can review the language of policies, evaluate the facts surrounding claims, communicate with insurers or regulators, prepare evidence, negotiate agreements, and litigate disputed issues when necessary. We work to protect our clients' rights as we help them resolve complex insurance-related disputes.

Representation in Insurance Litigation and Related Matters

Led by Partner Ned Parent, our team assists brokers, agents, producers, and other related entities in regulatory investigations and proceedings. These matters include cases reviewed by the Maryland Insurance Administration, as well as related proceedings in state and federal courts.

Additionally, parallel to his work leading Silverman Thompson's renowned fiduciary litigation practice, Mr. Parent also actively litigates disputes over life insurance policies. Such disputes frequently echo the allegations and claims found in disputes amongst heirs in litigation involving estates and trusts, including capacity and undue influence. These disputes often result in the insurance company serving as an interpleader and initiating proceedings itself in state and federal courts to compel the disputing parties to litigate their competing claims themselves.

Our team is uniquely equipped to guide clients through disputes related to insurance. We combine experience in fiduciary litigation with the insights gained through years working on insurance-related matters. Mr. Parent has secured multiple significant life insurance settlements on behalf of his clients without the need for prolonged litigation.

Some representative recent matters include:

  • Mr. Parent provided representation for one of the largest healthcare-sharing ministries in the country in a case in which the Maryland Insurance Administration attempted to implement an administrative order that would prevent the client from operating in the state. Through Mr. Parent's efforts during a legal battle that lasted almost three years, the administrative order was withdrawn, and the client was able to continue operating in the state without any penalties being assessed or any admission of wrongdoing.
  • Mr. Parent successfully negotiated a resolution on behalf of a public adjuster who was under investigation by the Maryland Insurance Administration, allowing him to maintain his license without an admission of liability.
  • Mr. Parent served as lead counsel representing a family who were victims of a $15 million life insurance fraud.
